4. Find a sport that interests you.

  • Here are some common athletic sports you can do:
    • Badminton- Group sport – minimum cost- can be played outdoor or indoors with family or friends. Badminton is a racquet sport. Racquets are used to hit a shuttlecock across a net. And the most common forms of the badminton are “singles” and “doubles.” Wikipedia
      Basketball – group sport- most people know that basketball is a team sport in which 10 players are placed in which 5 players play agains the other half to shoot the ball.       Tennis- group sport- Tennis is a racket sport. Two or more people can play against a single team or double team. A tennis racket is used by each team to hit the tennis ball into the opponent’s court.       Swimming- individual sport- Swimming requires the individual to use their arms and legs to move the body through water. Usually an individual but can be done with groups- sport. Swimming can benefit your health by keeping heart rate up and reduces the impact stress off your body. This sport can also build endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. Better health

      Archery – solo sport – The cost is minimum depending on where you wish to play or to pay for archery lessons – Archery (arcus) is a skill that requires a bow to shoot arrows. In the past, archery was mainly used for combat and hunting. Now it is used as competitive sport and activity. Wikipedia with this skill individuals can learn to improve focus on their form, and improve concentration. Competing in tournaments is also good practice to cope with high-pressure situations.       Snowboarding- solo sport- this is where individuals are required to go on a snowboard attached to their feet and descend from the high snowy slope. Snowboarding was mainly inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing and skiing.Wikipedia Snowboarding can endorphins, which is a brain chemical responsible for feelings of happiness and well being.       Waterpolo-group sport- Developed in Britain 1870 “a seven-a-side game.” This is when swimmers get in a pool, with a ball and throws into the opponents’ net. (Google dictionary). Cooling effect – waterpolo, swimming sports and other aquatic exercises enable exercise to the body without giving up. This provides for fulfilling workouts. Health

    2. Get outdoors

    You can keep fit by simply just walking or jogging outside. Most athletes will do some form of walking or running exercise throughout the morning or day. There are also many apps such as “Health” and “Run Keeper” which will record the number of steps you have taken and keep track of how much running and walking you have achieved in a week, a year or whole month. You can also do simple things such as walking or cycling to the nearest shops or to uni/college instead of taking a car, bus or train to reduce more calories. Save The Student Website

    1. Short workouts

    Are you not a fan of going to the gym but still looking for ways to stay in shape? You can still keep in shape by doing small workouts.

    An example of an athlete who is not a huge fan of the gym is  Serena Williams. She starts her exercise routine by doing a ten minute workout with some form of cardio exercise such as arm workout – plank rows, core and leg workouts by cycling or swimming. Williams also does “Barbell” pause squat, front squat and box squat for 10-14 minutes.(Healthista, 2018)
